Lesson 11
The Fear of Arrival
15 min read · 3 min narration
The last hidden file: the part of you that has organised a life around not yet having it, and would have to be dismantled if the thing arrived.
Narrated lesson
Every unfulfilled desire is also a job. Getting the thing makes someone redundant.
Late in the process, when the files are mostly closed and the fragment is steady, a final resistance often appears. It rarely announces itself as fear. It arrives as busyness, as a sudden new interest, as an old file mysteriously reopening. What it actually is: the fear of arrival.
An unfulfilled desire performs work in a life. It explains disappointments. It supplies identity — the striver, the one who is working on themselves, the one whose real life is still ahead. It protects against a specific test: if you get the thing and you are still unhappy, you can no longer blame the absence.
